Everything you need to know
Clear answers about legality, security, international notarization, and what to expect from your session.
Legality & Compliance
Is remote online notarization legally valid?+
Yes. Virginia law authorizes remote online notarization (RON), and our notaries are Virginia-commissioned. RON documents are legally binding and widely accepted across the United States and internationally, subject to the receiving jurisdiction's requirements.
Which states accept Virginia RON documents?+
Virginia RON is recognized broadly thanks to RON enabling legislation and full-faith-and-credit principles. For specific use cases (especially real estate closings), we confirm acceptance with the receiving party before your session.
Is the notarization recorded, and for how long?+
Yes. Every session is recorded and retained for 5 years on the NotaryCam platform, providing a verifiable audit trail for legal protection.
How do you stay compliant?+
Our notaries are Virginia-commissioned and follow Virginia's remote online notarization laws, including rigorous identity verification, session recording, and document integrity requirements — essential for real estate and financial documents.
Identity & Security
How do you verify my identity?+
We use two methods: Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA), which asks questions only you should know, and biometric verification, which matches your face to your photo ID. Both happen within minutes before your session.
What if KBA fails?+
If KBA doesn't verify (which can happen, especially for international clients), we use biometric credential verification as an alternative path. We'll guide you through whichever method works for your situation.
Is my data secure?+
Absolutely. The NotaryCam platform encrypts all video and document data end to end. Digital seals make your notarized document tamper-evident, and recordings are stored securely for the full retention period.
International Clients
Do I need to be in the United States?+
No. Our Virginia-commissioned notaries serve clients anywhere in the world. You can complete the entire process from your home country.
Do international clients need a US address or SSN?+
No. International clients do not need a US address or Social Security Number. A valid government-issued photo ID from your country is sufficient.
What is an apostille, and do you provide it?+
An apostille is an international certification that authenticates a notarized document for use in other countries (those in the Hague Apostille Convention). We coordinate apostille services so your documents are ready for international use.
Can documents be used in non-Hague countries?+
For countries outside the Hague Apostille Convention, a different legalization process is required. We'll advise on the appropriate steps based on your destination country.
The Session
How long does a notarization session take?+
A single document typically takes 5–10 minutes after identity verification. Closing packages take longer depending on the number of signers and documents.
What equipment do I need?+
A device with a camera and microphone (laptop, tablet, or smartphone) and a stable internet connection. No special software — you join via a secure link.
Can multiple people sign in one session?+
Yes. Multiple signers can join a single session for documents like joint closings or multi-party agreements. Mention all signers when booking so we prepare accordingly.
When do I receive my notarized document?+
Immediately after the session. Your notarized, tamper-evident digital document is delivered to you — ready to use or share right away.
Documents & Services
What types of documents can you notarize?+
Acknowledgments, jurats, affidavits, powers of attorney, contracts, loan and closing packages, diplomas and transcripts, authorization forms, and more. If it can be notarized, we can handle it remotely.
How much does it cost?+
Single documents run $130–$170, closing packages $275–$350, and custom quotes are available for volume or specialized needs. Final pricing is confirmed at booking — no surprises.
Do you handle real estate closings?+
Yes. We specialize in remote closings and work directly with title companies and real estate professionals to deliver compliant, fast turnaround on full closing packages.
